Nevada Egg Producers Defend Cage-Free Law
“Many have poured millions of dollars into transitioning to cage-free operations in response to growing consumer demand for more humane and sustainable farming practices. Repealing these laws would jeopardize that investment, potentially driving these farmers out of business. It could also open the door for foreign producers to come in, further destabilizing the market and undercutting American farmers who have made both the moral and financial commitment to cage-free standards.” Read the entire op-ed.
Californian Farmer Defends Cage-Free Law
Egg farmer, Nathan A Rakov, wrote in the San Diego Union-Tribune, “At Tzaddik Farm, we see firsthand how happier, healthier hens produce better-quality eggs. Consumers increasingly demand ethically produced food, and laws like Proposition 12 reflect those values.”
Arizona Court Case Mulls Legality of Cage-Free Rule Challenge
Despite the Arizona governor’s delay of its cage-free rule, she expressed support for Arizona's ability to set animal welfare rules like these in reference to a court case that's challenging the legality of the mandate:
“It is important however that this department retain its ability to regulate space standards for egg-laying hens,’’ the governor wrote. “Removing this ability entirely could have serious implications in the future if action is needed to protect human health or animal welfare.’’
